Opti Training Regatta at Cedar (TRAC)

 

 

 

 

 

The Cedar Lake Yacht Club invites all Optimist sailors and families to the annual Training Regatta at Cedar (TRAC). The emphasis of this regatta is to help train young sailors and their families in the sport of Opti sailing. This will be accomplished through dry land demonstrations as well as on the water (coached) races and review on the day of sailing.

Both GREEN and RWB FLEETs will participate on the same date, Friday, June 28, 2024.

 

Friday, June 28, 2024 - GREEN FLEET

  • Check In – 8:30-9:30am
  • Coaches Meeting - 9:15 am               
  • Skippers Meeting – 9:30 am
  • Break out session following skippers meeting.
  • First Race Warning Signal for GREEN Fleet – 10:30 am

Friday, June 28, 2024 - RWB FLEET

  • Check In – 8:00-9:00am
  • Coaches Meeting - 8:45 am               
  • Skippers Meeting – 9:00 am
  • Break out session following skippers meeting.
  • First Race Warning Signal for RWB Fleet – 10:00 am

Scheduled Racing:

Designated rigging locations will be assigned to each lake in an effort to provide adequate space for rigging.

 

* GREEN Fleet: Will sail as many as (4) races. No warning signal will be made after 3:30 pm.

* RWB Fleet: Will sail as many as (6) races. No warning signal will be made after 3:30 pm.  

 

Eligibility

 

 

For scoring, the fleet will be split into White, Blue and Red fleets according to the age of the helmsperson as follows:

 

White Fleet - (8-10 years) Helmspersons who are 8, 9, or 10 years of age on June 28, 2024.

 

Blue Fleet - (11-12 years) Helmspersons who are 11 or 12 years of age on June 28, 2024.

 

Red Fleet - (13-15 years) Helmspersons who are 13, 14, or 15 years of age on June 28, 2024.

 

Green Fleet - (5-15 years) The Green Fleet is for beginners who are in their first year or two of sailing. This is an opportunity for inexperienced skippers to sail in a race format. 

 

Social

 
  • Lunch:  Lunch will be provided (on-shore) for sailors and instructors as part of their registration. There will be some extra lunches available for purchase. Spectator Boats: Will be provided.

Fees

 

The entry fee includes t-shirts, on-shore lunch, a full day of instruction, and on the water sailing.

  • All Fleets – The registration fee is $80 per optimist.  A late fee of $10 will be assessed after June 23rd.   In order for participants to receive the super cool 2024 TRAC t-shirt, please register as soon as possible!  The registration online site will remain open until June 27th @ midnight.  Kindly register online.

Trophies

 
  • Red, White, Blue Fleet - Trophies for places 1-3 will be awarded in each fleet.
  • Green Fleet – Trophies for places 1-5 will be awarded.

Risks

 

Sailing is an activity that has an inherent risk of damage and injury. Competitors in this event are participating entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The race organizers (organizing authority, race committee, protest committee, host club, sponsors, or any other organization or official) will not be responsible for damage to any boat or other property or the injury to any competitor, including death, sustained as a result of participation in this event. By participating in this event, each competitor, or in the case of minors, each competitor’s parent or guardian, agrees to release the race organizers from any and all liability associated with such competitor’s participation in this event to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Rules

 
  1. The Regatta will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescriptions of the United States Sailing Association, the Rules and Bylaws of the ILYA, the rules of IODA and USODA, except as any of these are modified by the Sailing Instructions, and the Sailing Instructions. The Sailing Instructions will be available during the registration periods.
  2. The Low Point Scoring System in Appendix A of the RRS will apply, except that Rule A2 is changed so that each boat's total score will be the sum of her scores for all races (including boats that are not in their fleet).
  3. The Turns Penalty shall apply.
  4. Life jackets must be worn at all times while on the water and on regatta piers.
  5. No swimming shall be allowed while on the lake or on yacht club grounds.

Media Rights

 

Competitors' parents or guardians give absolute right and permission for video footage or photographs of competitors, or their boats generated during the regatta to be published in any media for press, editorial or advertising purposes.

 

Courses

 

The racing area will be on the navigable waters of Cedar Lake.

 

   

Miscellaneous

 

Launching and Mooring: Optimist launching will be at regatta headquarters. Each Optimist sailor will be assigned a parking area for his or her boat. Optimists and related equipment may be stored on the lawn at the regatta headquarters, however, the Cedar Lake Yacht Club accepts no responsibility for equipment. All coach boats (and spectator boats) may be launched at the yacht club between 7:30 - 8:30am only.
